When your vehicle came out of the factory it was fitted with a cast iron exhaust manifold. It was cheap, cast to suit an awkward small space and easily bolted on. However, they get very hot, are brittle and easily crack over time and not super-efficient at scavenging spent gas from the combustion chamber.

Extractors help the flow of gas. Thus, improve both power and fuel economy.
